More End of Summer Inspirations: Ladylike Looks

A small part of the lovely (Henry Darger!) collage on the Lyell blog featuring looks from the Urban Outfitters collaboration.

I wasted way too much time on the internet last weekend, mostly looking up Fall collections and trying to track down the perfect pair of shoes.  Did I find them?  No!  I change my mind too much.  But going to Urban Outfitters to look for them and looking at their collaboration with Lyell instead really did get the inspiration going again.  I think that it's pretty much a Fall collection, but most of it looks so perfect for wearing right now, especially the little tea dresses.  Then that got me thinking about the tea dresses in Alison Lewis' collection (again, a Fall one, but with plenty of stuff to wear right now), and I watched her video once more and fell in love with the quirky ladylike style in it all over again.

So I think that my last gasp inspiration of Summer '09 will be ladylike style.  Maybe a little vintage-inspired, but not especially so or really inspired by one specific decade--I like the idea of simple tea dresses and pretty details, straightforward romantic colors and lace.  And I'd throw in perfect little hats too if I had some more courage or even the slightest chance of looking as cute as this girl.

yay for more summer looks, the transition period is always awkward for me.

I want to change badly, because fall is one of my favourite seasons, but i badly want to cling onto the sunshine.

lovely inspirations as always!

Lovely pics!

We don't have any sunshine to cling to around these parts, but I could definitely go for any/all of these end-of-summer looks. Tea dresses forever. I tend to carry them into autumn with thick dark-coloured tights, but then that might be because I'm broke.

These are really lovely! Some much needed inspiration to carry me through the rest of these hot days. The David Hamilton photo is especially sweet. I love the soft drapey lines and colouring of their outfits.

And you should absolutely try some hats! I'm sure you would pull them off perfectly. Hats are so flattering, and very unique. :)

Ladylike style is a great call, especially as working a broad-brimmed hat into my looks would certainly make the heat a little easier to handle...

ooo... you and your sister have such great fashion sense! I have only started reading blogs recently and found her blog very captivating too. Didn't know that both of you are related! You must have some wonderful genes!

I'm really liking your ideas here... I have been enjoying the ladylike fashion as well- lace is a fave and high-waist pencil skirts.

Fall is my favorite season too Eunice. Unfortunately, we don't get much of a "Fall" in Louisiana.

And as for hats- I think that Cloches are perfect because they are so cute and comfy and can be worn dressy or casual without feeling too "showy" :-)

i love that lyell collage! i almost added it to my little fall inspiration post. some of their blouses and dresses are just too good. i can't wait till their fall collection goes up on their site.

i'm also really trying to figure out what kind of shoes to get for fall. it's painfully hard for me to make up my mind! haha

Such a beautiful collage - somewhat reminds me of Hundertwasser.

I really like the idea of buying a new pair of shoes for yourself for Fall. I wish I could justify that, but I just have too many pairs of shoes already! It sucks you couldn't find a pair you like - you deserve it.

Great collage! Ladylike styles are always classic. Your sister looks so lovely--I can see her resemblance to you! :}

that collage is lovely! I haven't really looked at their UO collection.

Very lovely, I think living in the south though we could get away with wearing these looks year round. I like to wear colors that go with the season & fall colors are some of my favorite. I'm in love with florals though!

Rhiannon: I've been obsessed with Lyell for forever, and thus was thrilled to find out about their UO collection, but from looking at their website, the quality of the Fletcher stuff didn't seem quite up to par, even for UO. I keep meaning to go to a UO nearby to check it out for myself, but haven't had the chance to. So what do you think? I'd love to know what it was like in person!

I have the same problems. Whenever I have extra cash, and am ready to spend... I can never find what I'm looking for! Then, when I'm broke as a joke, I stumble upon the perfect pair of heels and have to pass. Oh the joys of shopping on a college budget.

Oddly enough, I've been on the hunt for new shoes lately too (and am coming up empty handed. I swear I am the most picky gal when it comes to footwear!). I think perhaps it has with my need to get one pair of new shoes every season; I'm dying to have something a bit more "fallish" in my wardrobe. Sadly, I doubt I'll be wearing anything with a closed toe for several more months. :p

I love your "ladylike" inspirations--especially the whole concept behind it! :) And thanks for the sweet link... you're so nice, Rhiannon!!! ;) I am dying to wear that hat, but it's been in the 90s all week. Augh!

Eunice, me too! I love Fall--I love it 10 times more since moving to the South! I'm sure I'll miss summer eventually, but i'm just so bored of summer clothes!

Thanks, Antonio!

theotherscrapbook, aww, me too. Right now I'm only buying summer dresses if they'll look ok with tights and sweaters too.

Sarah, thank you, I might try it out! I guess I just feel out of place in hats , which is a silly reason not to wear them. Seems like you'd have to wear them with the right outfit--something not too fussy but then again not too casual . . oh dear.

Flora, yes, that would be perfect!!!

Ashley, aww, thanks, isn't she the cutest? We have a sister who's into fashion too . .. also her name's Ashley too! :)

Thanks, Hippy Chic. :)

NiftyThrifty, yeah, I've been eyeing cloches--I always feel silly in hats, but I should give them a shot.

Sacaton June, me too! I don't know why it takes me so long to decide on shoes!

Ichigo, ooh, what's Hundertwasser ? I looked it up and couldn't really find anything.

Trains, I'm pretty sure they're old Henry Darger paintings! Aren't they wonderful? http://www.hammergallery.com/Artists/darger/Darger.htm

Isabel, aww, I don't know if I deserve it! I definitely finally found a pair though. Although I don't need new shoes at all . . .

Carmelized, aww, thank you--she's so pretty!!

Ms. B., isn't she the cutest? When I visit her I'm going to try to steal her dress!

Reckless, it's really lovely!!!

Bree, it's really true! I really love the winters here in the South and how you can get away with wearing light coats and don't don't have to pile on gloves and hats and everything.

Meggy, just left a comment on your blog! :)

Darrah, same here!! Or the really good sales always happen to take place when I'm just about broke. That Built By Wendy Sample sale a while back. . . . there were a few things I wanted to get, but I was so poor!

Q's Daydream, glad you like it!! :)

Lauren, well, thanks for not getting mad at me for stealing your photo!

Thanks, Lagelle! :)

Laurakitty, me too! I just want to wear romantic dresses all the time and walk around the English countryside!

Casey, I'm the exact same way! Whenever I find a pair I always imagine it with just about every single thing in my closet, and then I obsess over the silliest details. I think I finally found a pair! It's not even a closed toe one, which sort of defeats the purpose of a Fall shoe, but I figure I can wear it with tights. :)

Bella, you're the queen of tea dresses! This one I'm wearing in my outfit post tomorrow totally reminded me of you!

Tara, aww, I'm the same way about commenting! I don't think I've even left a comment on your new etsy photos . . I was going to but I never got around it, but I've seen them on a few blogs and they're just the most lovely things--and the wallpaper too!!!
