Peppermint!

I know I've been kind of a downer lately, but things are finally looking up--I got medicine for my sickness (it's nothing serious and I'm not going to die, like I half-thought I would!)  and was in a much better mood yesterday and actually felt motivated again.  Then today I took all my Ebay packages to our super nice mail lady and she handed me a package from Australia in return, and it turned out to be the new issue of Peppermint Magazine!

I've been wanting to get my hands on an issue of Peppermint ever since I first saw the beautiful Bec Winnel-designed cover of their last issue, so when their editor Kelley asked me if I'd like to have a style feature in their new issue of course I said yes, and then a little while later when she asked if I'd like to be on the cover I said . . . yes, maybe??  It's just that their last cover was so pretty that I was afraid of jinxing it with my photo  . . .  But I think they did a great job of it, and the lovely lettering on the cover takes some of the attention away from my scraggly Christmas morning hair.

I scanned in the feature here if you'd like to read it  . . .  The rest of the magazine is extra lovely--it's always refreshing to read magazines that are written for real people who don't happen to have endless amounts of cash to spend on clothes (or who don't aspire to dress just like Alexander Wang-wearing hipster socialites, but that's another post that I probably shouldn't write).  Peppermint is more pretty than edgy (I mean that in the best way possible!), and being an eco-focused magazine it dedicates plenty of space to vintage and d.i.y. clothing.  Honestly, why does Australia have to have all the best magazines?

Wow, you're a cover girl! Congratulations :-D

And I think I must've been living under a rock, being Australian and not having heard of Peppermint *blush*. I'm going to hunt down the latest issue as soon as possible...

Australia does have all of the best mags. You know I'm so happy that you called out those a.wangs out there. I love your style, but mostly your personality. It doesn't call for attention. You just happen to be great. I hope you know you make tons of girls who are just normal, feel good about being so. ..or at least that's how I feel. Get well soon.

Awesome! Congratulations! I know what you mean about Australian magazines... I love Frankie in particular. Russh, too, but I can never find it. Sigh. I hope you get better soon!

When i lived in Singapore I never cracked open a magazine becasue they were all the same generic brand-obsessed mags. But since living in Australia (Perth), I've been collecting mags such as Frankie, Lula, Yen, Russh, and Dazed and Confused.

Now I HAVE to find this Peppermint magazone. Congrats!

Thanks a million--you're all so nice!!!

Veronica, aww, I'm so honored! Isn't it a lovely magazine??

Thanks, Devies!

Mel, thank you!! I know, I wish they sold it here too but I guess I'm pressing my luck to hope to see it on newstands in Atlanta!

Iris, thank you!! I just heard of it too! I think it's pretty new, if it makes you feel any better. :)

Thanks, Meaghan, I was so excited!

Aww, that's really the nicest, Aya!!

Zog, ha ha, I'm glad you liked it--it was sort of bitchy of me but I didn't mean it against other bloggers--just the magazines that are saturated with that tough girl stuff. I hate reading magazines I like and running into pictures of Alice Dellal types who maybe I'm too backwards to understand.

Thanks, Coco!

Frances, aww, I'm glad you got excited and didn't think, "(!*)($*, why her??!!" :)

Thanks, Catherine! Oh man, Russh and Frankie are amazing . . . I find them every so often here in Atlanta and always get extra excited.

Aurelia, ooh, what is Yen Magazine? I'll have to look it up. I'm the same way .. . so many of the magazines say the same thing and are made for girls who are into all that Balmain stuff that's just fine, but not what I'm into!

Alice, thank you!! There really are a bunch of good magazines, though I think most of them aren't sold here! It'd be amazing to live in a bigger, more international city with a better selection of magazines.

Muchlove, aww, that means a lot! But I have to disagree about the hair . .. I sort of look a wreck and wince when I see myself, but it's nice to know that you like it! :)

Thanks, Carol, Days in the Life, and Lina!

Jessicaisgoo--thank you--you'll love it, it's such a good issue! And I had no idea it was made in Brisbane (also I have to say that I'm jealous that you live in Australia!)

Emma, I think you're right!!

Maria, aww, thanks!! And sometimes I wished I liked edgy better--or at least I wish I could appreciate more modern/ground-breaking fashion, but I just can't relate to them.

Thanks, Laura!

BelladiNonna, aww, thanks, but I don't have fame, ha ha. Didn't they do a wonderful job?

Thanks, Jessica, you're so nice! I was glad they picked out ones I liked. I still wish I didn't look so goofy in the cover photo but maybe I'm just being silly. :)

Thanks, Flora!!!

Electric Lady--thank you!

Sarah, aww, thank you! I'm super excited, and it's really a great magazine! The paper's extra nice and they have these wonderful articles about sewing and old patterns.

Rhiannon, I bought this magazine, just because of YOU on the cover. I was so excited and amazed when I saw it! And it's a really nice magazine too. And we ARE lucky to have all these cool magazines, aren't we? I kind of assumed that all countries had cool magazines, but perhaps that's not necessarily the case?

I don't think there's anything wrong with Alexander Wang-wearing hipster socialites. I like that kind of style as much as I like your kind! Congratulations on the cover, it's lovely. A nice mid-seventies feel, in the best possible way!

oh congrats on the feature- it's lovely! I've been catching up on some blog reading after a busy couple of weeks and it's been a real treat to go through your posts, despite any of your "being a downer." My belated and greatest sympathies to you- I went through a similar loss about a year and a half ago and know how tough it is. However, even on the saddest day you look more adorable and put together than most people ever do!

What a great magazine! I totally agree, why can't the US have more mags like this?! Even though they aren't fashion mags, I've all about lost hope in the US magazine industry with the loss of Domino and Blueprint. It's kinda sad :(
