More '40s Inspiration . . .

I still don't understand why I'm so inspired by the 1940s lately but I just can't get enough of going through Flickr 1940s photostreams. I think it's mainly the summer photos that really get me inspired--all of the casual little playsuits and tea dresses and perfect bathing suits (the bikinis always extra high-waisted), and those hairstyles . . .

This last photo isn't necessarily a summer look. I just put it up for the shoes. I just placed an order for these sandals from Remix Vintage Shoes and they are scarily similar. I love the old-fashioned daintiness of them, but when I showed them to Kumar he burst out laughing and said that they look like something an old lady would wear! I couldn't really get mad because I guess he's right, and it's probably the reason why I like them so much. They're pretty much the opposite of the gladiator sandals that are bound to be everywhere this summer and I guess it's my silly way of rebelling.

**All photos from Flickr . . . Click on them to see them in their photostreams.

I'm obsessed with the 40's at the moment too. About to go and get my hair cut and thinking of going with radical 40's layering. This is a great collection of photos. If you are loving the hair, I'd recommend You Tube for some great vintage hair tutorials. As for the sandals - Go for it!

these are great inspiration photos!!! I simply adore the 1940s; I think I really like the trim, sportiness of it. ;) I've got quite a little collection of '40s ephemera going on (including my newly-acquired lot of 3 1947 Seventeen mags--I'm going to share some of the amazing images on my blog next week! :D). never ceases to inspire!

You've introduced me to a very dangerous, time-consuming new addiction. What an enabler!

Seriously, though, I can't wait to see how you incorporate those granny-tastic shoes into your wardrobe. I'm sure it'll be great!

Well you've actually given me much inspiration for my Secret Garden Party theme...(it's a music festival in the UK where fancy dress is heavily encouraged!)

Yes, I too will rebel against the atrocity of the gladiator scandal.

I love vintage clothing. My favorite era is the 1950s followed by the 1940s. I do love the glamour of those eras.

Lovely pictures!
