Photo from superbomba

I was searching through '30s and '40s photo groups on Flickr today so I could post another round of vintage "everyday life" fashion pictures, but this was the only one that stood out to me. I think it must be the stole because I'm a little obsessed with fur coats and accessories lately--so much that I bought a white fur coat on Ebay the other day even though it's so warm here that I rarely get to wear the winter coats that I already have. More on that later!

can't say as I like the fur look too much, sort of stuffy looking if that makes sense.

but anyways, neat picture, i like her dress. :)

I like your blog's new look! My friend Sandra is selling a huge lot of fur stoles on ebay, here's the link if you're interested (although it is quite a few!): http://cgi.ebay.com/23-pc-LOT-vintage-fur-collars-cuffs-trims-leopard-mink_W0QQitemZ200189423019QQihZ010QQcategoryZ957QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks for adding me to your links!

Hmm, that link may not have worked. Her ebay name is knickerslick if you want to search for it!

The picture is fabulous, i wish i had the chance to play dress up everyday. I was just commenting because i wondered if anyone else had this problem, i am a fashion lover, i save up my pennies (litrally sometimes) to vist vintage shops in London (England) and just brought a wonderful lace jacket with fur collar. The only problem is i am friends with a lot of animal rights activists. I have decided for myself that wearing vintage fur should'nt be a problems because i am not encourging any fur production, but i still am wondering if anyone will challenge me for my choice of outfit. Silly question, any advice?

I love looking through those old photos on Flickr. This photo you've posted reminds us that fur was once nearly an everyday item of apparel. I know my grandmothers each had a couple of pieces; stoles or hats mostly.

I'm not gonna lie, fur coats kind of scare me.

I was looking through my grandmother’s old photo album a few days ago and came to the realisation that Fashion wise the past seems so much better than the present, my grandpa was très cool.

Ha, it didn't occur to me to browse flickr for these types of photos. I just did a post on a photo on a Shorpy photo you might like. Unintentionally inspiring.

Moira, yeah, it seems kind of old-fashioned formal. But that's why I like it I think!

Anja, thanks! :) And I can never get ebay links to work in comments either .. anyway thanks for the tip! I'll check it out.

Anonymous, you've inspired me to write a post all about that . . . hopefully I'll get to it soon!

Suzanna, yeah, and it wasn't the least bit controversial! It's so funny.

Jeanne, thanks for the link! I love the photos on it. :)

Isabel, that's ok! They're scary when you think about it. I try not to because I love the way they look.

Scaredypants, thank you!! And I totally agree . . . I love how formal fashion was back then . . . hats, gloves, everything.

Ambika, I waste so much time looking through random Flickr groups.
